Call to Worship and Opening Prayer

"Friends, today is the first Sunday a Christmastide. Christmastide is the same as the twelve days of Christmas, when Christians celebrate the birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. It's also the period when the magi were making their journey to see Jesus.

Leader: We gather today as people who have seen God's faithfulness and rejoice in His promises fulfilled.

People: We come with grateful hearts, celebrating that God is with us.

Leader: Some arrive with joy overflowing, others with quiet praise or lingering questions.

People: Still, we lift our hearts in thanksgiving to the Lord.

Leader: The God who has been faithful through every generation is with us now. Come, let us worship with joy, confidence, and hope.

All: We open our lives to His living presence. We come to worship the Lord together.

Message

Reading and examining the Bible under the guidance of the preacher.

"Seeing God's Salvation"

Christmas is all about improbable developments, like a virgin conceiving a baby and God himself coming from heaven to earth. Possible things are easy to believe, but it is the glorious impossibles that create the wonder of Christmas and bring hope to our hearts!

BIBLE READING: Luke 2:25-38 NIV

25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. 27 Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, 28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:

29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
you may now dismiss your servant in peace.
30 For my eyes have seen your salvation,
31     which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:
32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and the glory of your people Israel.”

33 The child’s father and mother marveled at what was said about him. 34 Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, 35 so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”

36 There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, 37 and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. 38 Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.

Responding to God with
our Hearts in Song

Praising God for who he is and what He is doing in the body of Christ

Benediction

A personal and communal blessing from the Bible to strengthen us as we go back out into the world.

Welcome to Community West Church!

Dear Friends,
We believe the church is a special community of people joined by their hope in Jesus Christ. We know this hope has not always been apparent to those who have been hurt by church, or for whom church seems unnecessary or irrelevant. However, we believe everybody needs a community to which to belong, and we hope you will find our community a trusted context to continue your spiritual journey.

Protecting Our Children and Youth:

To ensure a safe and secure environment for our children and youth, Community West Church requires adult volunteers who wish to serve these populations must participate in the church for a minimum of six months, pass a “Proud to Protect” online course in recognizing and reporting child abuse, and pass a background check.  Youth volunteers who serve our children are required to take a certification training facilitated by the Director of Family Ministries.  A complete copy of our Child Protection Plan is available upon request.

CELEBRATE - Commit to our weekly Sunday Gathering.

Our Sunday service is a time for us to be reminded of God’s love and forgiveness, and to respond with our worship, obedience, and trust. we intend our service to be uplifting, hones, participatory, multi-sensory, biblically-based, and gospel-centered.

CONNECT - Commit to a Home Group.

Smaller groups are where the best of life happens at Community West. All small groups are built on three pillars: growing in God’s word, developing authentic friendships, and serving and getting involved in outreach.

CONTRIBUTE - Join a Sunday team and give financially.

None of us begins to belong to a community until we have a chance to share what we have to give. We invite you to share your time, by serving on a Sunday team, and your gifts by giving financially to the mission of the church.
